What is a Kiting Wing / Ground Handling Wing?
A kiting wing, also called a ground handling wing, is a type of paraglider used to learn and develop ground control skills (a prerequisite for flight yet a lifelong discipline for many paraglider and paramotor pilots). While a certified, flight-worthy paraglider can be used for ground handling (also called kiting), any usage (especially formative kiting), decreases the lifespan of a glider and subjects the glider to possible damage. A used paraglider is a possible solution. These paragliders are certainly worn and could be worn-out, damaged, etc. In short, they may no longer be flight-worthy. These demoted/retired paragliders turned/proclaimed kiting wings can be found in various shapes, sizes and stages of life -- all of which produce various levels of kiting performance. Manufactured kiting wings are another option. These wings are specifically designed for ground handling only, not designed for flight. They can be purchased new and used, and are generally more durable and less expensive than a full-size, flight-worthy paraglider. These wings also tend to be smaller, giving them a larger wind window, amounting to more opportunities to practice.
